my ♥ affair with Pinterest

Since Valentine’s Day is upon us, I feel the need to express my love for a social networking site that has me pinning pretty potted plants to my gardening board, organizing my fitness goals, decorating my home and LOVING every minute of it! Pinterest to me, is a dream. From fun-to-do crafts for the kids, inspirational quotes and books worth reading- to products I love, places I’ve been and music that moves me. Pinterest is a rainbow of sunshine and yummy goodness all wrapped up in a neat little package just for me, and I’ve fallen HEAD over HEELS!

Everything is perfect and pretty and inspiring. Pinterest is like a superlative parallel universe where weeds don’t grow, everyone is overcome with happiness, and no one is raining on your parade, ever. You can build, redecorate, create, and bake, even if it’s just within the parameters of your own head. Imagination, thoughts, and ideas are endless. It’s living life through a Pottery Barn catalogue, except way better.

Does it mirror real life? Obviously not. Is it better than real life? Maybe, but probably not. Do I enjoy it? Yes. Do I sometimes feel less than adequate when I’m rummaging through pins and suddenly get the reality check that I’m probably not the craftiest mom on the block? Yes. But I don’t let that get me down. I’m in Pinterest world.

A world where I can build my kids a Dr. Seuss tree house:

and have their play area look like this:

and serve them up lunches that look like this:

A world where I just renovated my bathroom:

and finally added on that sunroom:

Tried my hand at a little baking:

and a little crafting:

Oh Pinterest, how I love thee. You are unstoppable with your limitless categories and superfluous pins that keep me oohing and ahhing and pinning like it’s my job. I have a date with my husband tonight (it is Valentine’s Day, ya know), but I promise to meet you a little later after he goes to bed.

be mine.

  1. Dr. Lisa – I agree social networking and Pinterest sites are so fun BUT as a fellow chiropractor and owner of my clinic, I don’t feel like I have the time. Just wondering how you do it? How do you have your own blog and have time to Pinterest and have your career and take care and have fun with your family?
    Sincerely,
    Dr. Lisa R.

    • Hi Dr Lisa!-In response to your question, I don’t have time! My husband and I own our chiropractic office and he is a chiro as well so it allows me to work part-time until our son is in preschool next fall. I write my blog posts after the kids go to bed, but not always. That’s why you see that I do not post one everyday because it is time consuming. If you follow my boards on Pinterest you will see that they are far from being full. I am a picky pinner, did I fail to mention that? As far as working out and family fun, I just do the best I can each day and try and live in the moment. Most days are packed with work and errands and so on (plus I have CE’s this weekend!), but I have found that if I don’t make time for myself (even if it’s just 15 minutes) I am a cranky mommy.
      Yours in health,
      Dr Lisa M.

      • Thank you for responding! I appreciate your honesty! I love your blogs and your point of view on many things. I feel inspired and also not alone in my quest for balance! Have fun this weekend. 🙂

      • Balance is such a tricky thing. You are definitely not alone. Sometimes I just wanna go to bed! Thanks so much for reading! Maybe you can do a guest post???!! Seriously! Let me know. (mommy_om@yahoo.com) Much love sista!

  2. That Pinterest sure does get around… I just wanted to be honest with you and tell you that we’ve been seeing an awful lot of one another also. Our wild love affair began about 4 weeks ago. I’m not normally a catty sort of woman, but I refuse to end this relationship. Instead, I will be starting a 12 step group (PA: Pinners Anonymous) and would be happy for the company. 😉

  3. Uh – oh – Pinterest! Thanks for posting on the craziest way to eat up time since I don’t know, Facebook? Pinterest is a one stop organizational dream for creative types – it rules!

  4. OMG I feel the exact same way. I only found Pinterest about a month ago and I am hooked. It’s like my parellel life where everything is exactly how I want it! But I will say that while my boards look WAY different from my real life, I have gotten inspired to do several projects so far based on what I saw there, projects I never would have come up with on my own. Today in fact, my daughter and I are going to make memo boards and jewelry organizers based loosely on some ideas I saw on Pinterest. Yay!
