Quick and easy recipe for homemade baby wash and shampoo (16oz.). It’s great for hand soap as well! We use it in our office and at home. I have to add if you try this recipe using the essential oils (optional) make sure to use pure, unadulterated organic oils. These are NOT synthetic. If you use Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soaps, the Unscented Baby Mild Castile Soap works best for my kiddos. You can purchase it here.
Also, Dr. Bronner’s has an array of scented soaps that work wonders if you are going to make hand soap – these include tea tree, rose, peppermint, lavender, citrus orange, eucalyptus, and almond. I would stick to very mild scents or unscented for the baby wash. Always remember to change-up the recipe to suit your needs, such as your baby’s skin type, age, and/or possible allergens. In my opinion, warm water is all you need for the wee little ones!
Side note: If you do use this soap on your babies, make sure to avoid their eyes because it’s not tear-free and it will sting a bit.
If you have a homemade recipe please share it below. I am always looking for new ideas! Anything with olive oil, coconut oil, oatmeal, etc. I am currently on the hunt for a great natural DIY laundry detergent. Anyone have one?
on my blog, sweatpantsandsuperfoods.com, under recipes is a laundry powder that i use. I love it, I just don’t know what it is off the top of my head 🙂
I’m am gonna check it out! thanks!!
I make my own soap…it is 10 oz of lye, 1/2 gallon of milk (I use raw goat milk), 1/2 cup of honey, 2 cups of oatmeal, and 2 pounds of lard. Then you can add whatever scents you like. As long as you let the lye and milk react and let it cure for about 2 weeks it is very mild. My 4 year old uses it every day. If anyone wants more detailed instructions send me an email, it is really very easy.
This sounds great! I am going to email you! ~Lisa
I would LOVE your homemade soap recipe/instructions :)! I have a 4 yr old also, but we want to have another baby… would I be able to use this on a newborn too?

All I used on my little little ones was water. I think using unscented castille baby soap and not adding the essential oil will be fine for a newborn :O)
Can I get your soap instructions? I can’t see where to email you.

Hey Nice products. Thanks for sharingOrganic Baby Shampoo
I’m wondering, can you use fragrance oils? I have some from candle science but, I found some on naturesflavors.com that I am interested in using. Thanks :D!
for castile soap can it be a bar of soap? and how would i get it to liquid to make the organic baby shampoo and body wash?
Hi Jennifer!
I have never tried it with a bar of castile soap. Sorry! I would assume you would need to use a double boiler to melt the bar down but I’m not sure since the consistency will be altered! ~Lisa
Awesome!!
I’ve tried using just straight Dr. Bronners baby mild on my son’s hair but didn’t like the feel or look of it the next day (heavy, filmy, looked greasy). Does adding the distilled water and an essential oil help with that? Also been told to use an Apple cider vinegar and water rinse post-shampoo, but I don’t want him to smell like vinegar and am worried about getting it in his eyes or the stinging/burning if he has a cut on his body. And wouldn’t the ACV rinse be too strong to use every other day? (we bathe him every other day). Ideas? Please and thank you.
Does it have to be distilled water?
Thanks for the recipe, its easy and great!
I am having a hard time finding a foam soap dispenser that works. Which one do you use and where did you find it?
